Death totals due to the coronavirus have caused death rates to surge.
April was the deadliest month in Michigan so far this century.
MLive reports that 271 people died on an average day in 2018 due to causes such as heart disease and cancer. Those rates have continued, but coronavirus has added about 100 deaths per day to that total during the month of April.
Of Michigan’s 11,713 deaths in April, 2,747 are attributed to the coronavirus, according to state data taken from death certificates.
