COVID-19 infections ravage Kalamazoo’s Lakeside Academy

Nearly a third of students and nine staff members have test positive for the virus.

COVID-19 infections have swept through a facility for at-risk teenagers in Kalamazoo.

The chair of the board at Lakeside Academy announced Thursday that 37 students and nine staff members have tested positive for the coronavirus.

That comes as the facility faces intense criticism after a student was restrained and died last week, according to an article on MLive. That student, 16-year-old Cornelius Frederick, also tested positive for COVID-19.

Currently, Lakeside Academy is under orders to house students elsewhere while officials determine if it can continue to operate.
