Governor loosens up stay-at-home orders

New order allows small gatherings, some retail, and doctor visits.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced Thursday that, effective immediately, people can gather in groups of up to ten people. They will still have to practice social distancing and wear facemasks.

The order also loosens restrictions on retail businesses, auto showrooms, and non-essential medical, dental, and veterinary services.

Stores and auto showrooms can reopen Tuesday, May 26. Both will only be able to serve customers “by appointment” and stores will be limited to ten customers at a time.

Medical appointments, dental appointments, and veterinary services will be allowed to resume May 29.

Notably absent from the order are bars, restaurants, salons, and barber shops. Those businesses are still restricted from reopening.
