Kalamazoo County facing $1.3 million budget cut

Kalamazoo County has lost a lot of money during the COVID-19 shutdown.

County Administrator Tracy Moored told commissioners during their regular meeting Tuesday that they will have to find places to cut $1.3 million from the budget.

The loss is a result of reduced income from things like park fees and events that had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 shutdown.

Proposed reductions will be made public during the board’s meeting on June 2, according to an article on MLive, but it will include cuts to salaries and operations throughout the county.

“This hopefully will fill the hole that we need to fill for right now,” said Moored.
