Kalamazoo County tests 1,500 for COVID-19 in one day

Kalamazoo County teamed up with the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services to offer COVID-19 testing at nine nursing homes Wednesday.
The aim was to test approximately 1,500 people, both nursing home residents and the staff who care for them.
“In our community, older adults living in facilities are the most vulnerable and have been impacted the hardest with COVID-19,” said Kalamazoo County Health Officer Jim Rutherford in a press release.
To date, the county has reported 51 deaths related to the coronavirus with 78% of those coming from group living facilities such as nursing homes.
Three of the nursing homes conducted their own testing while the remaining six were conducted by teams from the National Guard.
