Kalamazoo schools to hold in-person graduation after all

Graduation ceremonies will be held in August after blowback from parents.

Kalamazoo Public Schools was all set to hold virtual graduation ceremonies. But then parents complained.

KPS officials announced Tuesday that it has reversed course and will hold graduation ceremonies in August if possible.

MLive reports that under the new plan seniors from Phoenix High School will walk across the stage on August 4. Seniors from Loy Norrix will graduate on August 5 and seniors from Kalamazoo Central will graduate on August 6.

Plans are tentative at the moment. District officials say any graduation ceremony will require attendees to adhere to whatever best practices are in place in August to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.
