Retail may be next to reopen, says governor

Pet grooming could also reopen by the end of the month.

Retail workers may be the next to go back to work, according to Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

In a video interview with MLive Thursday, the governor said retail and pet grooming could be the next business sectors to reopen if COVID-19 cases continue to decline.

“But it also has to be done with the appropriate protocols,” she said. “Meaning wearing masks, meaning keeping crowds down so people can remain six feet apart. All of these are actions that employers and business owners are going to need to deploy in their workplaces.”

Whitmer said she is continuing to work with the Michigan Economic Recovery Council, made up of health care and business leaders across the state, to score the different sectors of the economy based on their level of risk.
