State launches crisis text line for those suffering with mental health issues

Trained counselors are available all day, every day by texting "RESTORE" to 741741.

The COVID-19 crisis is taking a heavy toll on some peoples’ mental health. That is why the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has launched a mental health crisis text line.

Simply text the word “RESTORE” to 741741. That connects the texter with a trained counselor who can provide advice and information on other resources that are available in the texter’s area.

“Michigan residents are coping with stress and anxiety that can result in a mental health crisis,” said Allen Jansen, MDHHS senior deputy director of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Administration in a press release.

The MDHHS intends to continue the service even after the COVID-19 crisis has subsided.
