Governor to extend state of emergency

The current state of emergency order expires this weekend. Governor Whitmer says an extension is necessary to keep residents safe.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced Wednesday that she intends to issue an extended state of emergency for the whole state to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We will remain in some form of a state of emergency order,” said Whitmer in a press conference. “All 50 states are in some form of state of emergency and we will have to be as well.”

The current state of emergency is set to expire Friday. The emergency declaration gives the governor authority to take actions, such as the stay-at-home order that was lifted last week.
