Michigan drivers have until September 30 to renew licenses, registrations

Governor Gretchen Whitmer on Wednesday signed a series of bills to extend the deadline to renew driver’s licenses, state IDs, and vehicle registrations until September 30.
The goal of the laws is to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Secretary of State offices, which could otherwise be crowded by people trying to conduct basic business.
Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said it’s a balancing act.
“We have been continually assessing the safest way to maintain branch operations and this legislation will go a long way toward those efforts,” she said.
Most residents can renew licenses and registrations online through the SOS website.
