WMU football opener cancelled

It's the university's second opening game cancelled due to COVID. A third opening game is scheduled.

Western Michigan will not play its opening game against Stony Brook University this fall. That’s because the conference Stony Brook plays in has cancelled the entire fall season due to COVID-19 concerns.

It’s the second opener for WMU that has been cancelled. The Broncos had been scheduled to play Colgate University at Waldo Stadium September 4, but that team’s conference barred air travel and overnight stays for their teams.

WMU has a third chance to kick off the season. They’re scheduled to play University of Cincinnati September 11.
