State reports 1,121 new COVID cases
State health officials reported 1,121 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, the highest daily total since mid-May.
While the number is high – more than double Wednesday’s total – it’s not bad news. That’s because the state also reported more than 40,000 test results total – a record for Michigan.
Despite the number, the infection rate in Michigan is relatively stable. Just 3.1% of Thursday’s test results came back positive. The seven day moving average is 3.3%.
The state also reported 16 deaths resulting from COVID-19. Only nine of them count for Thursday’s total. The rest are due to a review of records from previous days.
