State reports 565 new COVID cases Sunday, down from 1,105 Saturday
Michigan health officials reported 565 new cases of COVID-19 Sunday, a number that is about half Saturday’s total when 1,105 new cases were reported.
The new tally brings the seven day moving average to 760 new cases per day.
Saturday’s large increase may be tied to an outbreak in a prison in Muskegon County. That county reported 168 new cases Saturday – more than six times its previous high number.
The state also reported six new deaths Sunday and 18 deaths Saturday. Most of Saturdays deaths, 14, were due to a review of previous death records.
Sundays usually show a lower total of new cases than other days of the week due to a lack of reporting from some counties.
