9/17/20: 829 new COVID cases, 9 deaths

42 new cases reported in Kalamazoo County, averaging 32 new cases per day.

State health officials reported 829 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday bringing the seven day moving average down a little bit to 739 new cases per day.

The state also reported nine new deaths from the coronavirus, five of which came from a review of previous vital records.

Kalamazoo County health officials reported 42 new cases of the virus and 17 new probable cases. The county is averaging 32 new confirmed cases per day as of Thursday.

The largest number of new infections came from Wayne County and Ingham County. Wayne County is one of the most populous counties in the state, while Ingham County is home to Michigan State University where many students have been ordered to quarantine to avoid spreading the virus.

There were more than 33,000 coronavirus tests conducted across the state Thursday resulting in roughly 3% coming back positive. That number is down from a high of 4.4% last week.
