9/21/20: 1,536 new COVID cases Sunday and Monday, 12 new deaths
State health officials reported 1,536 new COVID-19 infections over the course of Sunday and Monday. That parses out to 768 cases each day and brings the seven day moving average to 684 new cases per day.
The state also reported 12 new deaths from the coronavirus. The death rate is relatively stable with an average of nine new deaths per day over the course of the past week.
Kalamazoo County health officials reported 38 new confirmed COVID-19 infections over the same time period. Antibody testing also turned up two more probable infections. No new deaths have occurred in the county since September 10.
New case numbers continue to be high in counties with large populations of college students. Ingham County, home to Michigan State University, and Ottawa County, home to Grand Valley State University, are both host to major outbreaks of the virus.
