Portage Central cancels first football game of the season after COVID infection

A member of the coaching staff tested positive for COVID-19 prompting the cancellation of the school's game against East Lansing.

Student athletes at Portage Central are disappointed after the school abruptly cancelled its first football game of the season just hours before kickoff.

“A member of our coaching staff has tested positive for COVID-19,” read a statement from the school, “and we are taking these steps to ensure the safety of student athletes, coaches, officials and spectators from both teams.”

Eleven football players are quarantining due to having had contact with the coach.
