State reports 783 new COVID cases, 13 deaths

COVID infections are being boosted by outbreaks on college campuses.

Michigan health officials reported 783 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, a number that brings the seven day moving average to 698 new cases per day.

The state also reported 13 new deaths from the coronavirus.

Cases are rising precipitously in counties that are home to colleges or universities. Among the worst is Ottawa County where Grand Valley State University has seen a tripling of infections since last week.

Almost 400 GVSU students and staff had tested positive for the coronavirus as of Tuesday.

Kalamazoo County health officials reported 25 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday as well as one death.
