10/8/20: 1,197 new COVID cases, 22 deaths
State health officials on Thursday reported 1,197 new cases of COVID-19. The seven day moving average is now 923 new infections per day, the highest its been since April when the state was on the downslope of the initial onslaught of the pandemic.
Cases are continuing to rise in Kalamazoo County as well. Health officials here reported 65 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus Thursday. The county also reported 17 new probable infections based on antibody testing. The county is averaging 41 new cases per day, which is about the highest it’s ever been here.
No new deaths have been reported in Kalamazoo County since September. The state reported 22 new deaths Thursday, though 20 of them come from a review of previous death records.
The number of people in the hospital with confirmed cases of COVID-19 rose slightly on Thursday to 661 people across the state. The number has doubled over the past three weeks, according to Crain’s Detroit, and is the highest it’s been since June.
