12/27/20: 254 new deaths pushes 2020 death toll over 12K

State reported 7,341 new cases since Christmas Eve. Infection numbers and deaths are declining. New data is scarce due to the holidays.

Michigan: More than 12,000 people have died from COVID-19 in Michigan making it the third largest cause of death this year.

The state reported 254 new deaths on Saturday, a number that covered Thursday and Friday as well. The state’s seven day moving average of coronavirus deaths dropped below 100 per day for the first time since December 2. The state is averaging 81 deaths per day over the previous week.

State health officials reported 7,341 new cases of COVID-19 over the course of Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The daily average dropped to 2,631 new cases per day over the previous week – the lowest average since October 29.

Kalamazoo County: Kalamazoo County hasn’t reported new COVID-19 stats since Christmas Eve. At that time, the county was averaging 63 new cases and almost three death per day.

Other Stats: State and county health officials haven’t published any other measures of the coronavirus pandemic due to the holidays.
