K-Wings cancel 2020-21 season

The Kalamazoo hockey team announced it would opt out of competition this year due to COVID concerns.

Kalamazoo’s hockey team, the Kalamazoo Wings, will not compete this year. The team made the announcement Monday citing concerns over COVID-19 as the basis for the decision.

The team joins ten others in the East Coast Hockey League to opt out of the 2020-2021 season.

“Our top priority has always been the health and safety of our fans, players, coaches and staff at Wings Event Center, and we determined it was in the best interest of our hockey community to sit out this season,” said K-Wings Governor Toni Will in a press release.

That leaves just half the ECHL’s roster of teams to play this winter.
