MacKenzie’s Bakery to close for good amid pandemic

The Kalamazoo bakery will shut its doors for the last time on Christmas Eve.

Longitme Kalamazoo bakery, MacKenzie’s Bakery, has announced that it will shut its doors permanently in two weeks. The bakery’s last day will be December 24.

In a post on Facebook, owner John MacKenzie thanked Kalamazoo for supporting the business during its 40 year run.

“In the 40 years since my family opened on West Main Street, you have welcomed us into the Kalamazoo Community,” MacKenzie said. “We still treasure the support our customers provided then, and remain grateful for the warm relationships formed over the years.”

The bakery has two locations: On Harrison Street in downtown Kalamazoo and on West Main Street. Both have been for sale for several years. MacKenzie said he is ready to retire.
