1/3/21: Infections and deaths rise slightly over New Year’s holiday
Michigan: State health officials reported 8,983 new cases of COVID-19 over the course of Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. That raised the seven day moving average to 2,837 new cases per day – about 200 more than on Wednesday.
The state also reported 265 new deaths from the coronavirus over the same time period. 211 of those came from a review of previous death records. Average daily deaths, which have dropped from nearly 117 per day on December 18, rose slightly on Saturday to 81 deaths per day over the previous week.
All other COVID-19 metrics have been on pause during the New Year’s holiday. The state and Kalamazoo County will report new daily infection numbers, deaths, hospitalizations, positivity rates, and vaccinations again on Monday.
