Kalamazoo to resume tickets for on-street parking

After nearly a year of no-hassle on-street parking, police are going back to issuing citations for mis-parked vehicles.

Free parking on Kalamazoo city streets is coming to an end.

In March of last year, the city stopped issuing citations for cars parked on residential streets overnight after the governor issued stay-at-home orders meant to halt the spread of the coronavirus. Nearly a year later, the city is going back to business as usual.

Effective immediately, people parked on most residential streets between the hours of 2 and 6am will receive a parking ticket.

The rule is evidently meant to give deference to snow plows during the winter months, but the rules are in effect year round.
