Kalamazoo chili cook-off moves outdoors

The annual fundraiser will go on, but with COVID protections in place.

It’s an annual tradition – one that will go on this year with some significant changes due to the pandemic.

The Downtown Kalamazoo Annual Chili Cook-Off will be held this weekend as planned, but with some changes to make it COVID safe.

The biggest change is that the entire event will be conducted outdoors. Downtown Kalamazoo businesses will set up tents outside their storefronts to accommodate visitors and chili samples will be distributed across a table rather than handed person-to-person.

Event organizers say they worked with the county’s health department to devise guidelines for keeping the event safe.

The event will run 11am to 3pm, Saturday, February 27.
