Outbreak closes Portage Central Elementary
The Portage elementary school has moved to online classes after five cases of COVID were discovered.
Officials at Portage Public Schools have closed one of the district’s elementary schools after an outbreak of COVID-19 was discovered.
The district reported five cases of the coronavirus at Portage Central Elementary late last week. A further eight staff members and 55 students have been asked to quarantine.
Superintendent Mark Bielang quickly made the decision to shut the school and move students to remote learning until March 3.
The day they come back, students will be released after half a day, which will allow teachers to receive their second dose of the vaccine. On Thursday, March 4, classes will also be held remotely to allow teachers to cope with any side effects of the vaccine they may experience.
