KPS plans in-person graduations

Seniors in the Kalamazoo Public Schools will get an in-person graduation ceremony this year. But in a year filled with unprecedented events, this year’s celebrations will be unusual.
KPS will hold four graduation ceremonies in early June. All will be outdoors, attendees will have to be masked, and graduates will be staggered to allow for social distancing.
The district has a little experience with conducting events during a pandemic. It held graduation ceremonies last summer in a similar fashion, with graduates spread widely across an outdoor space and with limited guest lists.
This year, graduates will be allowed to invite up to ten guests. For those who can’t attend in person, the event will be live-streamed online.
The district will hold four graduation ceremonies in total:
- Loy Norrix High School, 6pm, June 2 at the Loy Norrix soccer field
- Kalamazoo Central High School, 6pm, June 3 at the Kalamazoo Central football stadium
- Phoenix High School, 6pm, June 4 at the Phoenix gymnasium
- Kalamazoo Innovative Learning Program, 6pm, June 7 at Loy Norrix’s Kasdorf Auditorium
