Unemployment offices to reopen
After 15 months of pandemic closure, Michigan unemployment offices will reopen beginning June 30.
What Happened: Like many businesses, Michigan unemployment offices were forced to move operations online in March 2020 when the coronavirus pandemic began. They’ve been operating online ever since, which has proven difficult for people receiving unemployment support.
Those difficulties were exacerbated by the surge of new applications for unemployment benefits early on. The state had between 600,000 and 900,000 new applications each week during the first months of the pandemic.
What’s Happening: Unemployment offices are reopening for appointments only on June 30. Offices will not see walk-ins. Appointments can be booked online.
Appointments are available in 15 minute increments from 8:15am to 4:45pm Mondays through Fridays.
