Is Kalamazoo cancelling its holiday parade?

City businesses say they were alerted by organizers that the holiday parade will be off again this year.

Kalamazoo’s holiday parade may have already been cancelled for this year.

The annual event is typically held in November, but downtown Kalamazoo businesses said they have received emails stating that this year’s event has been halted.

WWMT reports that several businesses received emails from the Downtown Kalamazoo Partnership stating organizers didn’t feel comfortable holding the event this year.

“With the unpredictability of COVID-19, the stalled vaccination rate, and the unpredictability of in-person attendance at the public schools, and colleges we thought the safest decision was to not to offer these two events to the public this year. As you know, the parade requires months of planning,” read the email.

The parade was cancelled last year as well due to the pandemic.

Downtown Kalamazoo Partnership President Andrew Haan issued a statement saying it hadn’t made any final decisions yet and would announce its plans in August.
