Kalamazoo health leaders plead with residents to get vaccinated

In an open letter, the heads of the county's major healthcare orgs said they're alarmed by the rise of COVID.

The leaders of all of Kalamazoo County’s major health care providers are imploring residents who haven’t yet been vaccinated against COVID-19 to get the shot.

“Almost 100% of COVID-19 related hospitalizations and deaths since June have been among unvaccinated residents,” reads the letter. “Serious illness and death as a result of infection with COVID-19 are now almost entirely preventable.”

“Please, get vaccinated.”

New cases of COVID-19 have been on the rise in Kalamazoo County for over a month. The county’s positivity rate is approaching 12% – a rate not since the tail of the spring surge of the coronavirus.
