Kzoo’s holiday parade to return after all

The annual holiday tradition had been rumored to be cancelled for this year due to COVID concerns.

Kalamazoo’s annual Holiday Parade is back on.

Downtown Kalamazoo businesses had reported receiving letters saying the parade and other holiday events were cancelled for this year due to concerns over the coronavirus. But the Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership and Maple Hill Auto Group announced on Thursday that they had reconsidered.

The parade will be held downtown on November 20. It will kick off Small Business Saturday, which has been a major source of income for downtown businesses.

Maple Hill Auto Group is organizing the event this year for the first time. Representatives said more details are still to come, especially surrounding COVID safety protocols.

The parade was cancelled last year due to COVID concerns and those concerns have not gone away this year. Organizers said they could still adjust plans in response to state or federal guidelines.
