9/24/21: September sees spike in COVID deaths
Michigan: Nearly 500 people have died from the coronavirus during the month of September. That’s as of Friday’s report – there are still six days left in the month. The number eclipses the total of 336 during the month of August. It’s still far short of death totals from previous waves of the pandemic.
State health officials reported 82 new deaths from COVID-19 over the course of Thursday and Friday. That caused the seven day average to rise to 28.29 new deaths per day.
The state also reported 6,080 new cases of the coronavirus over the two-day period. That pushed the seven day average up to 2,763 new cases per day.
Kalamazoo County: Four people in Kalamazoo County succumbed to the coronavirus last week according to the most recent report from the state released on Friday.
Meanwhile, the average of new cases declined last week. Health officials reported 128 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday and Friday, prompting the seven day average to decline by four to 69.43 new cases per day.
