Kzoo hospital issues vaccine mandate
Bronson Healthcare, the owner of Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, has issued a vaccine requirement. All employees must be fully vaccinated by December or face dismissal.
The new rule will apply to all medical and other staff as well as contractors, students, and volunteers.
A hospital spokesperson said that 76% of its employees are already fully vaccinated, but that isn’t enough to ensure patients are safe from the virus. They estimated that 90% of COVID-19 patients are unvaccinated.
“It’s really important that … we, as employees, are not a part of that in-patient process,” said President and CEO Bill Manns. “It’s really important that we do the right thing.”
Kalamazoo’s other hospital, Ascension Borgess, issued a similar requirement in July.
